Stretches to Reset the Vagus Nerve and PTSD Responses

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between a real and perceived threat. The body doesn’t either.

We are living through a time where we are seeing a lot of suffering. Our empathy can feel overwhelming. The vicarious trauma of what we see on screen is being held not only in our minds but in our bodies too.

Carolyn Cowan is expert in working with this. She has offered this short video, as a trauma therapist, showing how she would work with the body to reset when someone is traumatised.

Do as Carolyn does in this video and see how it changes how you feel. Allow yourself the respite it brings, if only for the moments spent on the mat.

All of our teachers are expert in releasing stress mechanisms in the body to help soothe both body and mind.

In times that really are extremely overwhelming, to give yourself permission to take some time to be calmer, to reset yourself, to be gentle and soft and allow the mind to move away from short, fast, thinking, is a good thing. It helps. It helps not only you but others too. You can do much more to support the other when you are better able to soothe and hold yourself.
